I decided I wanted to use up some of my elann sonata to make a top. I'm giving myself until July 8th to finish the top... Wish me luckNappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-24940786475276874222009-07-16T17:39:00.000-07:002009-07-16T17:42:50.363-07:00Yes, I'm still HereI haven't disappeared I swear. I'm even managing to get some crochet in. I actually finished Doris Chan's Eve's Rib. I just work way way way too much now that I'm back to normal. So yes this is a drive by post but I figure it's better than nothing lol.Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-16776277548442094532009-04-23T16:26:00.000-07:002009-04-23T16:30:25.695-07:00This One, That One, and That Over ThereThat's about how I feel right now. There are several Interweave Crochet patterns that I want, but find myself totally uninterested in the rest of the patterns from that issue. I think they should make the things available a la cart so that hip chic cool kids like myself can just buy the one's we want. Heck do it online and there wouldn't be much overhead (so I think)... I'm just saying you know.Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-43062223859131650472009-04-17T14:03:00.000-07:002009-04-17T14:26:59.524-07:00J'adore Doris ChanMan oh man do I adore Doris Chan. Her designs are beautiful and well thought out, and her patterns are well written. Couple that with the fact that she's wonderfully sweet and very helpful, and you have an incredible lady.

So why the random praise of Doris? Well I ordered her book, Everyday Crochet last Friday. I received it on Tuesday and began working on the Cameo camisole that night. Well last night I ran into some confusion with the body part of the pattern. I contacted Doris on Ravelry, and within a couple of hours, she responded. I was stoked that #1 I was doing it properly and #2 she responded so quickly. So now I'm working on my top and it's all thanks to Doris that I'm no longer stuck. I'm thinking I might go down a hook size for some waist shaping, but other than that I'm going to work as instructed. I just hope I can manage to finish it by next week.

*In other news I finished my Shoulder Lean and man does the Amazon yarn stretch. I'm thinking I might wash again and throw it in the dryer to try and draw it up some.

* I keep seeing these Namaste bags and I really want one. Perfect combo of two of my loves... huge purses and yarn (they're designed to hold projects as well as everything else).Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-47364311157992837232009-04-07T22:38:00.000-07:002009-04-07T22:41:15.038-07:00One the Hard way or my random arm warmer
Size J Hook and half a skein of Vanna's Choice

This started out as the wrist warmer from Crochet that fits, but by the time I modified it to fit my forearm it definitely didn't look like Mary Jane's pattern. The problem arose when it came time to sew it closed, the wrist area is actually a bit loose, but the forearm wouldn't even close so I whipped out my hook and added four rows of varying lengths. This made it look a bit like the back of a skirt but it also allowed for a larger forearm. I did this because every since my surgery, cold makes my wrist hurt.Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-9148559749176817432009-04-04T22:49:00.000-07:002009-04-04T23:04:34.133-07:00Stash Snap

Yes I just wrote about having too much yarn en stash, and no that hasn't stopped me from acquiring more. I am embarrassed to say that it may now be considered a self-sustaining entity. I say this because as I packed it all away, it tried to escape from what will have to be its old storage place ( a plastic thing that a queen-sized comforter came in). As we were packing up my things, one of my best friends tried to zip the bag and it burst at top seam. The sad and possibly dangerous part was the fact that we continued to find skeins/balls of yarn as we packed up the rest of my small bedroom. I mean I actually found yarn that I didn't know that I had. I don't remember buying it or anything. This leads me to suspect that my yarn stash has actually found a way to reproduce and may be plotting to take over Music City U.S.A. The sad sad part of this situation is that all of the aforementioned yarn is acrylic/acrylic blend and wool. This means that I'm seeking lighter/summer-safe yarns. I'm also looking to expand the types of yarns I use as I'm thinking that acrylic is great, cheap, and good for a lot of things, but not always appropriate. I've been scoping out some cotton/linen/silks and reading up on them to see what I might be getting myself into. The stash is big, but at this rate it might be out of control soon.Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-79131513695969597262009-03-15T17:37:00.000-07:002009-03-15T17:38:02.125-07:00I'm on Ravelry and TwitterCome check me out nappythreadz on both.Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-37688367979049774792009-03-15T17:22:00.000-07:002009-03-15T17:36:45.112-07:00I HATE SleevesSo I got my crochet mojo back. I've been working on Tammy Hilderbrand's "Chicago Swing Jacket" since late last month. I'm sure I mentioned my hatred when I wrote about Afya's "It's a Wrap". Well, Chicago hasn't made me love them anymore. It's my second "large wearable" and the sleeve construction was new to me. The shoulder (a sort of cap-sleeve) was made first and then the rest of the sleeve is worked. I'm including some pictures of the item and a close-up of the offending pre-sleevage
So far I've used just shy of 2 skeins of Caron Simply Soft in Grey Heather (it looks silver to me due to the sheen of the yarn). I'm guessing it'll end up being around 2 and a third maybe a half. I haven't found buttons I want to use just yet. I thought about finding some large sew on rhinestones and using those for a bit of pop. That or grey square buttons. I really don't want to crochet the buttons like the pattern suggest. Just a nice list of things that I need to make and package before Christmas. I have only managed to finish a neck warmer for my favorite newlywed. That still means I need to do a hat for the set, and a hat for "that man". I need to make a little purse for my friend's daughter, but I think it might be forced to wait until after Christmas. I don't like to make her wait, because I promised it to her soooo long ago, but I also have a paper to write, and a final to prepare for :(. I'm kind of happy to say it though, I've been abandoning my craft time in favor of quality time. Maybe I'll say more later lol. Oh yeah and let my not forget the top part of a sweater that's staring at me from across the room. I'm working top down and in the round based on the Sweet template on Crochet me. I started working it up in Lion-brand wool-ease, but I realized it'd be more cozy in homespun (I LOVE the Lagoon color) It's this amazing teal with wisps of plum-my purple. It's just gorgeous. Not the most expensive yarn, but hey I'm on a budget. I am going to finish the wool-ease version, maybe do something tunic length. (I have a butt load of the yarn; I purchased it for a project a year or so ago, and it didn't work for the pattern. There may be pictures... in January.Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-47519016082927588412008-11-18T17:05:00.000-08:002008-12-12T17:26:01.983-08:00Rheatheylia's Cable Hat better known as Copper CablesSo, I've finished another item, yay me. It is Rheatheylia's now infamous crochet cables hat. I made mine from a coppery (looks straight up orange), 100% Peruvian wool, once again from the LYS. I took me about a week to finish and this is with random on and off working mostly on the bus. On Sunday, some random ass dude came up and asked if I was making a kufi.... I just gave him the stink eye and kept it moving. Now without further ado, Copper Cables
Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-9734980072039717582008-10-28T15:25:00.000-07:002008-12-12T17:26:01.990-08:00House Slippers

Ok so what the slippers are two different shades of blue lol I like them that way. The pattern was supper easy and the only problem is I crocheted the darker slipper with an N hook (started ) and finished with a K so it's not as stiff as the light blue one which I worked completely with the K. Oh well Newbie-ness strikes again. What do ya think?
Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-2444628065006011412008-10-20T20:32:00.000-07:002008-12-12T17:26:01.998-08:00El Fin de Purple Passion There it is the fruit of my labour lol. It's getting cold and I'm determined not to buy any knitwear accessories this fall/winter. Almost there
So I got a lot of discouraged when I realized that I had to frog my left sleeve (the final league, of my first real wearable's, journey). I've dragged myself up out of the dirt, and I'm on my way again. Tonight, while watching the debate, I began reworking it and added the necessary increases to the upper arm. I love Afya's patterns, but like a lot of patterns, it never fails that I have to do a bit of altering and changes to get them just right. When I look at the piece hanging on my closet door, the sleeves look crazy but it fits perfectly. I'm not complaining. There's a hint of chill coming on and I think that this top will aid me in my journey to warmth.. Oh yeah! I'm naming my top.... Purple Passion. LOL I know I know, but it's fun.

See just a bit further

Once I finish the sleeves I plan on finishing with two rows of half double crochet in black. I know I know he doesn't look like he belongs to a woman, but that's because his lovely wool/angora blend yarn was purchased to make a scarf for my ex-boyfriend (last November). He's wonderful really, made up from my own mind with a mesh stitch done in double crochet. His gray trim is done in single and half double crochet. I just kind of came up with the button and tab, creating as I went. Once again the yarn is something whose name I can't recall because I purchased it last year at the LYS. I even have a picture of Lux lovingly embracing my cold neck...

See don't we look happy :) . Again

So I have yet to finish the purple wrap top from Afya's book, I get disgusted with the sleeves and end up putting it down. It's an easy pattern, but I keep having to adjust the sleeves to fit my big ol' arms, now the first sleeve went fine because I went into it knowing I had to make it bigger, but the second sleeve, weeeeelll I didn't go to work on it until like June and got about halfway down before I realized I'd forgotten to make it bigger. Due to annoyance I put it back in the W.I.P. bag and that's where it is now... in October. I'm clearly not a pro. I did however finish a pair of fingerless gloves

The yarn is a multi-tonal blue wool I got from my LYS, and I can't remember the name since I got the two skeins I have of it like last year sometime. I'm currently working on two neck warmers that I'm going to post pictures of sometime in the next few days.. I know I'm a bad blogger cause I'm so frequently absent, but lordy if you knew how seldom I get to crochet , I swear you'd understand :)Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-57883090053979184082008-02-12T17:43:00.000-08:002008-12-12T17:26:02.045-08:00My first completed clothing itemI'm nearly finished with the It's a Wrap , top from Afya Ibomu's newest book. I'm excited because I've been working on and off for a week and this will be my first completed clothing item that isn't well a hat or mitten or scarf.. This summer has been hellacious and I'm happy to report that I'll soon be back to my normal life. I'm working on a few projects now and I have finished the would be fedora, but of course now it's not really a fedora just some sort of hat with a brim. I'll post pictures asap. It's good to be back and I should be updating once a week from here on out.

Toodles
Ma'atNappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-72821971962801335422007-04-03T09:53:00.000-07:002008-12-12T17:26:02.065-08:00Dream RealizedWE GOT OUR APARTMENT!!!! Now I know for those who already have house that isn't such a big deal, but I'm just about to graduate from college and my cohorts are still in. It's our first place so you know how that goes. now that means I get to do some decorating and I will definitely post pics. Tentative move in date is May 1st but we should start painting and stuff a few days before.Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-66071846878788548782007-03-22T15:31:00.000-07:002008-12-12T17:26:02.071-08:00Apartment Idealz (storage for the bedroom)

So my little sister and I are still hunting for an apartment here in the city. We've been looking hard and think we may have found something. In my mind that's license to begin making plans for decorating my bedroom and we've both starting plotting out the living room. In my mind I saw this fab little shelving unit in my room of course it's going to be black, problem is that realizing this unit could be quite expensive so I started to look around.

The above image is my ideal unit based on realistic parts from one of my favorite places for mass produced slightly over priced goods....Target. Of course this only happens after the pieces have been painted black (I'm thinking of going for the lacquered look). I'm just totally in love with the idea and already have plans for what will go on my soon to be new shelving. I'm considering making my bedroom a TV free zone so that would leave space on top of the 3x3 section for an awesome candle-scape and some nicely "potted" lucky bamboo plants.

The actual cubes (~1x1) will house my books, some objects DE Arte, and maybe a few fabric drawers/baskets for storage (in the cubes without backs).

On top of the ~4ft shelves a nice vase and a potted vine (matching).

To each side of the 2x4 units, I would like to do some sort of sconce (wall mounted or hanging from the ceiling), and over the 3x3 maybe a nice original painting or a rasterbation of some sort.

This is just my thought for my "focus" wall and should set me back maybe $150, I'm so hoping I can do it for less. If we get the apartment we're LOVING right now all of the storage will be in closet so the room doesn't have to be anything but comfortable. Next post (give me a day or two tops) I'll be discussing my plans for bedding and lounging. Can we say Ms. Ma'at is totally excited about this whole thing.
Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-41566433993694838962007-03-07T21:15:00.000-08:002008-12-12T17:26:02.080-08:00Shoutz Out

This is just a brief post to shout out my favorite crocheting sistah. I would like to thank Shelia of Shelia's Crochet for my gifted yarn from her stash clearance. I greatly admire this sister's work, she's awesome! I have never encountered someone online who was so helpful or friendly. This woman's work (Whatever happened to Maxwell by the way?) is amazing because she freestyles her stuff. So this is my Shout out to Shelia.
Nappy Threadzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621378038796636989noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8370405646843263437.post-69124744164199879842007-03-02T14:53:00.000-08:002008-12-12T17:26:02.087-08:00Nappy in AbstentiaJust a quick hello here. I've been extremely busy & tired lately, so there hasn't been much time to post or even make stuff to post about. I can however provide a quick run down of crafty things to come.

Completed booty shorts

Completed fedora

Nintendo DS Lite case

some stuff whipped up for my soon to be new apartment (by soon I'm talking May)

I think that about covers it.
